During the holiday season, those who are in need can go to shelters and churches to receive food and comfort. But what about after the holidays? After Christmas, it’s still cold, people are still hungry and need help but there aren’t as many places to find it. Job and Family Services plans to combat this reality by partnering with Napier Truck Driver Training to provide free truck driver training to those currently receiving food assistance. The Cincinnati Enquirer recently wrote about this and outlined the following requirements in order to qualify for this program:
Applicants must:
- Live in Hamilton County
- Qualify for and receiving food assistance from Hamilton County
- Be able to read, write & speak English sufficiently to speak with people on a day-to-day basis
- Understand highway traffic signs and signals in English
- Be at least 18-years-old
- Hold a valid driver’s license from the state of Ohio
- Have reliable transportation to the training site in Hamilton, Ohio
Those who meet the above requirements qualify for free tuition with Napier Truck Driver Training covering all other costs too. The partnership between Job and Family Services with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service has received national recognition for its success.
Training at Napier will be five weeks long, full time operating Monday through Friday from 7:30AM – 4:30PM daily. The entire training process includes 40 hours of classroom training and 120 hours of hands-on equipment training.
After graduating from Napier, graduates are then offered lifetime job placement, tutoring to pass the CDL written exams and free refresher courses for up to 6 months post-graduation. Napier has over 30 companies that recruit for local, regional as well as over-the-road positions.
